Winterizing is more than just hooking up a compressor and blowing the water out of the lines. If done incorrectly, there can be both short and long term problems.

Too much pressure is the main culprit. In an effort to speed up the process, some 'contractors', and individuals, will turn up the pressure on the compressor. This speeds it up all right, and it can also damage the heads, valves, and pipes! In the short term, it may do nothing noticeable, but in the long term, additional wear and tear could be occurring. In the sprinkler rotors, the gears could be wearing down. In the valves, the diaphragms may be stressed, and in the pipes, well, you don't want to have the pipes cracked or stressed. The end result in most cases is a flood. If you aren't home at the time, I don't want to think of the mess you may come home to.

A professional knows how much volume and pressure to use when blowing out sprinklers. Many  do-it-yourselfers typically use an insufficient volume of air, and after having forced some water out, the air will ride over the top of the remaining water. This results in the remaining water draining into low spots and subjecting the system to freeze damage.

Is it really worth saving $5.00 or $10.00 annually to have a fly-by-nighter do it? The repairs could total in the thousands. Have it done by a reputable contractor that offers a warranty, so that in the event of a problem, you can call to have it repaired. How are you going to get satisfaction from a stranger, or your neighbor, that came through your neighbourhood towing a compressor behind his station wagon?

Here is an example of what can happen to your system if it is:
   a) built using PVC pipe and;
   b) not winterized properly
It took 21 man hours to find and replace this 270 feet of broken PVC pipe.
A broken mass of PVC pipe.

Get it done professionally! We break it, we fix it.
